Bracknell Forest Borough Council Awarded EU Code of Conduct ‘Participant’ status
During early April 2010 Bracknell Forest Borough Council were awarded ‘Participant’ status to the European Code of Conduct for Data Centre Energy Efficiency. Bracknell Forest is the first, and so far only, local authority within the UK to successfully join the code. This is a demonstration of their continued commitment to lowering carbon emissions and making financial savings, savings that all councils are going to have to make during these difficult economic times.
“We felt it was important to embrace best practices within our data centre at Time Square. Future-tech were chosen to update our existing facility and bring these practices into place. We had already reduced our number of servers through a programme of virtualisation and Future-tech were then able to introduce cold aisle containment. This in turn has allowed us to switch one of our air conditioning units to standby, resulting in a substantial saving in our cooling costs.”
“Once these changes were in place signing up to the code seemed the next logical step. To ensure the Council were successful, and to show their commitment to us and the code, Future-tech helped us through the application process. This made joining very simple, easy and most importantly quick. Like most Authorities in the UK resources are tight and value for money is a high priority, so we are delighted with the results working with Future-tech has produced. We are proud of our data centre and proud to be the first local authority within the UK to join the code.” Iain Berry, Bracknell Forest Borough Council
